Does anyone out there have an interest in visiting the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore and seeing the reliquary exhibit (Treasures of Heaven)? I'm looking at Sunday May 15th, last day of the exhibit and my only free day for it.

(I need ideas so I can make a reliquary for some EK artifacts).

Is anyone going to the SCA Board of Directors meeting on October 16th in Pittsburgh?
Is the local group doing anything? (I know that weekend is also AEthelmearc crown tourney).

I plan to attend, but I'm trying to figure out how much of a trip to make it (day trip (ugh), 2 day, weekend, etc)

Howdy - are any locals heading up to East Kingdom War Camp in Eisental? I've got something I need to pick up from a merchant there, but wasn't planning on attending (I'll day trip if I can't find someone to make the pickup for me).

Message from First Officer Snarfgor Wallace:

Captain, the enemy ship has launched a battery of missiles at us!

We lost 10 crew members in the attack...

Captain! Our beam weapon made a direct hit on the enemy ship!

27 of their crew were eliminated in the attack.

The enemy ship has been destroyed, Captain!

Captain, we're receiving a chorus of transmissions from the surface, celebrating our liberation of the Scadian homeworld. They have also dispatched a ship bearing 50 Scadian maidens, who have enthusiastically joined our crew!

It is with deep regret and much sorrow that after getting permission from Sven,
I pass on that Duchess Kolfinna will loose her brave fight with H1N1 today,
October 1st, 2009. We all feel a great loss but Kolfinna's family asks that her
friends refrain from coming up to the hospital. There will be a memorial at
Great Western War and there will be more information on that and final
arrangements posted on the website later http://www.kolfinna.sca-caid.org/

Thank you

I never got to meet her Grace, but we corresponded a few times as the EK Wiki was coming together. Most of the templates we use were ones she created and allowed me to copy. My condolences to all her friends and family.

But in a nice way. Every so often I run across an old English book I'd like to see, and every so often I'm reminded of the Early English Books On-line (EEBO) database. Occasionally these two things happen at the same time, and I find myself hunting up all sorts of stuff. Which is how I ended up downloading 4 different copies of Cotgrave's Wits Interpreter, a copy of The Academy of Armory, Florios' Second Frutes, and a little pamphlet titled: A Short and Plaine Dialogue Concerning the unlawfulnes of playing at Cards or Tables, or any other game consisting in chance (among other things).

I need a bigger harddrive.

We are well into the archery season now. All of my nice scores from over a year ago have fallen off my average (our "Royal Round" average is the average of the highest three scores from the past 12 months). I've been pretty happy with how I am shooting right now, so I hope to start climbing back up the rankings. I'm not likely to break through 60 yet, but I should be able to get close.

Had a good time last weekend at St. Sebastian's Fair. Shot okay on the roving range, but I lost a few and broken many arrows. I started the day with a walk through of the course, then took the first group through. Spent some time running the practice range, and then took the opportunity to go through the roving range myself. Apart from a broken crossbow prod, the event seemed to go very smoothly, and everyone looked to be enjoying themselves.

This weekend is some more archery at Ducal Challenge. Not sure if they will have royal rounds set up as well as the challenge course, but I can use the practice no matter what. At the end of the month we're going up to Concordia for more archery goodness.

Only two weeks left to submit game classes for Pennsic 38.  Just go to: http://pennsicwar.org/penn38/AANDS/PENNU/univform.html and fill out the form for each class. Be sure to select "Games" for the Type of Class, so that we can schedule you in the Game Tent.

This year the Games Tent is being moved. Instead of our usual spot across from the camp store, we will be in with the A&S class tents. Most likely behind lost and found near where the heralds used to be (it is expected that the heralds will also be moving).

I don't know what effects the move will have on us - other then no more ice truck to try and teach over - so I am taking a wait and see attitude with it.

We still need volunteers to help keep the tent running! If you've got a couple hours for a day or two and want to help out, please let us know.

You can sign up at our Yahoo group if you'd like to help out:

Any SCA brewers (or non-SCA brewers even) in the area: Check out the following Yahoo group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CelticCockBrewersGuild/

While the Guild is no longer active, we want to continue to use the mailing list for connecting and keeping in touch with brewers in the southern region. They are planning to maybe meet quarterly, as well as hold brew dates and classes once again.
