...but first a Happy Birthday wish to [livejournal.com profile] kbuxton! May you get lots of cool books :)

I've finally gotten back into the swing of reading regularly. I doubt I'll get that many books finished by the end of the year, but at least these last few months will be better then the first ones. I went back through a lot of my old book posts and added some tags to make them easier to find in the future. Of course it is only after I finish that I hit on the idea of also tagging them with the author of the book. I'll have to save that for the next time I get bored and want to dig through old posts.

Because I never got a summary of my 2004 list, I'm putting it here under the cut (just so it will be available next time I go looking for it).

Since today is the Day of the Ninja, I shall try to be stealthy in my wishing [livejournal.com profile] moirla a happy birthday.

Hard though it may be to believe, the Day of the Ninja
actually pre-dates talk like a pirate day by
perhaps a hundred years. It was celebrated in medieval Japan
primarily by the upper class to be thankful that the Ninja hadn't killed them
yet. Only in recent years has it become a celebration of ninja.
By making it a more public holiday, the ninja hope that
instead of drawing attention to themselves they will
really be drawing attention to the folks
trying to celebrate the day. This will give them cover for their
hidden activities that need to be performed during the
daytime. Listen closely to the news today and tomorrow
and you may just uncover some of their true goals. But
you would be smart to keep them to yourself if you do.
Most modern ninjas don't dress in the traditional garb
or sneak around in the dark with a sword. The blend
in with those around them, taking mundane jobs and
raising mundane families. They work in mostly
low level jobs, which give them access to everything but
are usually ignored by everyone. You never know where one will be!

Yeah, we've been celebrating for weeks, but this is the day :)

Another year older - another year more wonderful. Happy Birthday Amy.

Love,
Mike
