Catching up

Hmm... nope, still not in the habit of writing. Reading, sure, no problem, many hours spent. Taking five or ten minutes to jot down a note? Nope. Add to that my extreme reluctance to write about anything really personal, and my belief that most of what is going on around me would be pretty dull to anyone reading, well it makes for a very thin journal.
Forging onward in spite of this...
What's happened
The last two weeks have been pretty busy. Some friends of ours went to London for the first week so I was feeding their cats. I also managed to get to fencing practice (it's fun, but I don't think I'll ever be a good fencer - lack of depth perception makes it tough), the brewers guild meeting (where I should have talked more about the rules for the brewing contest at G&G, but at least I had judges from the guild), and my EK history work night (where I worked mostly on G&G stuff). All the rest of my time was put towards figuring out what I wanted to do in terms of the game tournaments at the event. More on the event itself later.
I made it through my birthday quietly. I got some very cool books and CDs. And for what may be a first for me - I managed to not buy anything for myself that other people got for me. Usually there are some items that I'll put on my wish list and then buy the next day - and of course on the day between is when my sister will go shopping.
Saturday was a combination baby shower, party, post-revel at our friends house. Good time there, got to see some folks I've not seen in a while - even got to play some more poker.
Had lunch with my dad on Monday. All is about as well as can be expected there. Still, it was good to talk to him. Spent the rest of the week trying to catch up on all the stuff I was putting off the week before.
Wednesday we had an impromptu event debriefing, more on that later.
Thursday I actually got to work on EK history stuff. I'm still way behind the folks sorting the newsletters, but at least I'm making some progress. In addition to the stuff that's been sorted, we've only got one more box of group newsletters to work through, then we move on to the rest of the collection. Friday was gaming, where I actually got to play some games(!). We played Laugh and Lie Down, Chess of the Four Seasons and Tarocchi.
Saturday was beer brewing day - we started 15 gallons, most of which is earmarked for a the EK Allies War Party at Pennsic. It was the first time I've brewed beer (not being a beer drinker), so it was interesting to see what the differences were in the processes.
Finally I spent Sunday doing laundry and sitting in front of the TV, relaxing and ignoring all the other stuff I should have been doing :)
Somewhere during the week I started playing poker on-line (www.pokerstars.com) - only for play money though!
What's happening
I've got another busy week ahead of me. Tomorrow I go to New York for the day and get to listen to the updates from one of the research groups we work with. I suspect they'll bring in lunch, so I won't get a chance to sneak out to the Strand Annex. We're taking the train up and back, so at least I'll get some free time to read.
While I'm on the train home, the Prince and Princess of the East may stop over at my house - it's a convenient half way point between where they live and where one of their seamstresses lives. We're glad to help out, but it would have been cool to be able to meet them in a relaxed environment. As it is, I'll probably get home after they leave.
Wednesday I fly to Boston for two days. I should be back in time for the history work night on Thursday. While in Boston I'm going to get to visit some old and new friends (Hi
cvirtue,
metageek, and
msmemory!). I'm very happy about that :)
Friday I may have jury duty, but I won't know for certain until Thursday night.
Meanwhile I've got to choose what my next book will be - I figure I'll finish my current one on the train tomorrow. Right now my choices are:
The Eyre Affair - Jasper Fforde
Bridge of Birds - Barry Hughart
American Gods - Neil Gaiman
I may bump American Gods, but only because it's a hard back and I prefer paperbacks while traveling.
