What a week

Wednesday night my sister and her husband came over after work, so we went out to dinner and then over to see Sin City. I loved the movie! Great adaptation of the books, with really good casting. This was one comic based movie I'm glad they kept close to the original source material.
Thursday night was an extremely long shire meeting, some of it could have been avoided (event planning) but other stuff I was really glad to see discussed (term lengths for officers, clearer selection methods for officers, improved event creation, and getting a written customs document). Some of these things have been discussed in the past (to no effect), but this time I think it will be different.
Friday I was thinking of as New Music Friday. I received two CD orders the day before and brought the new stuff into work to listen to. The first group were all from Omnium Recordings and would mostly be classified as World Music. I got: Boiled in Lead's From the Ladle to the Grave, Seven Thieves' Scenic, Felonious Bosch's EP, and The Reptile Palace Orchestra's We know you know. The last one was especially interesting because in addition to the 16 tracks on the CD, it also included an additional 14 songs in MP3 format (along with a mini-web site with info about the band). All of them sound pretty good on the first listen. I lucked out there, as I'd only heard Boiled in Lead before. BiL led me to Felonious Bosch, which led me to Seven Thieves. The Reptile Palace Orchestra just sounded too interesting not to try. Ran out of time before I got to the second group of CDs.
Saturday we got up early, went to King of Prussia, and hopped on the bus that
sansobel had arranged for us. Then off we went to NYC to see Spamalot! We had over 40 people with us, mostly Scadians, with a few co-workers, and other friends thrown in. We made good time getting there and so walked over to Grand Central Terminal to see the William Wallace sword which was on display. Had lunch in their food court - lost track of most of the rest of our party. Stopped in at Manhattan Comics on the way back to the theater (nice two story comic store), where I realized I needed to update my comic database before trying to go shopping again.
Spamalot itself was excellent! Extremely funny, with a great cast (Tim Curry, Hank Azaria, David Hyde Pierce), and great music. I was a little worried near the beginning, because it seemed to be following the movie a little too closely for my taste, but it quickly diverged and continued to surprise through out. I'll probably try and see it again if it comes to Philadelphia, but I'm really glad I got to see it with this cast.
Sunday afternoon was an SCA demo for the local Mensa group. Not a great turn out on the Mensa side, but the folks that were there seemed interested and had a good time. I talked about games the entire time (big shock that). It wasn't a long demo, so I was home by four. Amy and I watched a few episodes of Strange, then I went up to play WoW. Ended up playing until around midnight. A group of us went in and cleared one of the dungeons where I had 6 quests to finish (The Stockades) and I stayed on doing a few follow up quests.
Monday I got to hear the rest of my new music finally. I actually started with a CD I'd had for a few weeks but only heard once or twice - Tori Amos' The Bee Keeper. The rest of the CDs were from my CDBaby order, and interestingly enough the first two mentioned Tori in one their songs. The first was Tom Smith's And They Say I've Got Talent, followed by The Kimberly Trip's Catastrophic Behavior. The last one was The Bad Things self titled album. I also had gotten a free CD with my order, but it didn't strike my fancy (little to much like Bonnie Raitt for my tastes)
That evening I went to the Tori Amos concert with
beckishadow and
singewulf. Their friend had gotten tickets for the three of them, and then couldn't make it - so I bought the extra ticket and joined them. Great show - best acoustics of any of her shows I've been to. It had been years since I've seen Tori live, and I was really happy to see her again. It was just her and the piano (or organ, or keyboard....). I think I prefer her shows without a back up band. She played what's probably my second favorite song of hers: "Happy Phantom".
Took us a while to get the car out after the concert, and we didn't get home until after midnight.
The lost sleep from that last two days is taking it's toll today, but it was all worth it :)
