In spite of spending a lot of time playing games, I also got to do a few other things at the con. The dealer's room was pretty small but the folks there had a nice selection of games. But the only game I bought was En Garde!, which I got directly from the company (who were there demoing it and others). The con's film fest and medieval faire didn't pan out, but they did have a good number of guests that I was interested in.
The guest of honor was Jennie Breeden, creator of the webcomics Devil's Panties and Geebas on Parade. She even remembered me from when I first met her at SPX last year. I picked up her most recent books as well as a print of her devil girl character. On Sunday I gave her a little bottle of cranberry mead, just 'cause she's cool.
Rich Burlew, who does the Order of the Stick was also there (and hey, he recently moved to Philly!). I picked up his prequel book "On the Origin of PCs" - even got a sketch in it. Read it over the weekend - it's got some great gags :)
I picked up a copy of "Baby's First Mythos" from Erica Henderson. Her art is great - both the Mythos stuff and the other work she had in her portfolio. The copy of Mythos that I picked up has a way too cute painting of Cthulhu in it.
I also grabbed a second copy of the Serenity novel, but only because the author, Keith R. A. DeCandido, was there and I could get it signed :) (anyone need an unsigned copy?)
Saturday night was Slugween, a costume party put on by Pete Abrams and the folks at Sluggy Freelance. This year's theme was zombie pirates, but I stuck with simple renn garb ('cause I'm not really into costuming...). It was an evening of drinking, playing silly games to win pirate gold and just hanging out with weird Sluggy fans. I brought along a bottle of my Cinnamon Bun cordial, which seemed to go over well. Pete, Jennie and Rob Balder all got to try it at various points. Jennie even wants more, so I may have found a reason to make cordials again :)
A couple of photos from the party have started to show up, both on the Sluggy site and in personal LJs.
Good time was had by all.
