Agreed. Usually I'm looking at events for the next month when I run into this. I've no problem with not having an event website, but if you're going to have one, at least provide something more there.
What info were you hoping for that isn't in the announcement? It has been long enough since I went to an event other than Pennsic (except for MK 12th night last year) that I have never looked for info on an event online at all, so I don't know what sort of thing one should expect. In fact, this is the first I ever heard of an event with its own website!
I dunno. The existence of the site says that they anticipated that they might need to get out updated information; the fact that it's the same as the announcement might just mean that nothing's changed.
I know what you mean, though. It's like searching for a blog post you remember about Foo Bar, and finding that all the hits are from people who just posted "go look over there" entries on their own blogs.
Or like hunting for specs of some device, and finding that the top hits are from bottom-feeding review sites that (a) don't have an actual review and (b) have less detailed specs than if they'd just copied it from the manufacturer's site. If they don't have anything to say, they shouldn't bother saying it.
From my experience the existence of the site just says they thought they should have their event on their site somewhere, and the webminister just copied the announcement to do so.
I feel if they have updated info, then they should put it on the EK site - they can usually do that as quickly or quicker then putting it up on their own site.
Agreed, though I'll bet when asked some of those might say "we thought having it out there more places would be more advertising."
To which my response would be you don't HAVE to put the "event website" in the EK announcement.
Even more of a peeve -- they include an "event website" link in the EK announcement -- and when you click it it's a link back to the EK website announcement

If it is something that has been long-planned, I agree with you.
