9. Set This House in Order - Matt Ruff [740/1623]

[livejournal.com profile] matt_ruff's third novel is the story of two people with multiple personality disorder. Andrew knows he is a multiple, but doesn't know all of his body's history. Penny is just learning that she is a multiple, and some of her personalities have asked Andrew to help her come to terms with it. But that is only part of the story. Another excellent novel from Matt Ruff. His next book is out now, and I don't know if I'll be able to resist reading it as long as I did this one. I really enjoy his books, but new ones don't come along very often, so I tend to save them :)

I've been thinking recently that I need to read Matt Ruff. (I haven't had the chance yet.) I think you've pushed him to a higher priority in my 'to-be-read' pile. So thank you! :)

Did you notice my name on the acknowledgments page?

Bad Monkeys is an evil little book and should be read multiple times and immediately. I probably should re-read Sewer Gas and Electric soon. And I MUST get a hardcover copy of Fool on the Hill because both of my paperback copies are falling apart.

I tend to forget the details of books I've read, so I can re-read good authors for a long time to keep me sated until a new book comes out.

Fool on the Hill is one of my absolute favorites! And part of it is having gone to Cornell... I used to walk around campus and visualize the scenes unfolding in front of me!

I lived in Risley, so I didn't have to go anywhere for a lot of the scenes :)

My mom read the book before her first real visit to Ithaca and she spent the entire trip pointing out places she read about in the book.

Me too! When did you live there?? I was there from Fall 91 through Spring 93, but worked in the dining hall until graduation in 95... And Risley is what got me into the SCA.

And P.S. I am glad your Mom didn't witness the scene Aurora's mom did, or react to it in the same way. ;)

I was in Risley from fall 92 - Spring 95, but started doing SCA stuff in Fall of 91 when my boyfriend dragged me out to stuff.

So we were there at the same time... Do you think we ever met??

Sorry, Mike, for completely hijacking your LJ! :)
