Games in the pipeline

I was just poking around Funagain Games, and noticed quite a few games available for pre-order that I'm going to have to pick up at some point.

First up are reprints of some classic games. Two of them are from publishers I've never heard of before, so that could be interesting.

Wiz-War (8th ed.) - Chessex

With those three coming out again, I wonder how far behind a new version of Cosmic Encounter is...

Also coming is a new edition of Plague & Pestilence, which has been out of print for a while.

I'm a fan of them all too :) Just need more time to get together with folks and play them. I've got too many games that haven't been played yet :/

Black Industries is the RPG wing of the Black Library, which is the publishing arm of Games Workshop, so not _really_ a new publisher for the GW game Talisman. Of course, I don't think Chutes and Ladd....er, sorry, Talisman is actually a _game_ per se... more like a toy.

Well, I just don't see how it is any different really than 'Lets each roll a die and high roll wins!'. Theres a lot of kurflufle around the die roll, but that really is it - the 'decisions' are, er...absent for the most part.

But it has great roleplay potential - lots of trash-talk, which is fun. Definitely a beer, beer, pretzels, beer and beer game.

Ok, I can see your point, though I think that is simplifying it quite a bit. Yeah, there is a good deal of luck, but there is still a good deal of decisions to be made. It's not a strategy or tactics game by any means, but neither is it The Game of Goose with a new art.

Hm...The way I recall, the only decision you ever make is "Left or Right", which is not really a tactical decision.

Titan was always fun, but I like Titan Arena better. It's pretty darn unique.
Talisman, I shudder at the memory. We had a game last 12 hours and it scarred me for life. Can't sleep, can't stop, must play one more round. Someone will win if we play just one more round.

I had a game of Illuminati like that. We foolishly decided to play the variant where you go until *all* the groups are controlled. We nearly killed one guy who went to attack someone's structure after 12 hours of playing. It would have released dozens of groups back into play.

Oh no! I haven't finished a game with the last color (or 2?) yet! Haven't played Carcassonne yet either... maybe we can all play when you come up for Canterbury. :)

The best WizWar was 1st edition, with the Killer Rock. (Rock did a point and stunned the player hit for a turn. Pick up and repeat... :D )

Titan -- I just recently looked over my old copy of Titan, bemoaning the fact I hadn't played it in probably over 20 years. (Of course, I also recall the game of Titan I played at Philcon those many years ago which ran over 14 hours before we finally gave up...)

Talisman is another cool game - I still have my first edition of that, plus expansions. Maybe it's time I got the new one.

I hadn't realized there was a Paranoia card game out there. Must get.

Not sure what Red Dragon Inn or Kill Doctor Lucky are. The rest are all either varients or expansions to games I have. May have to look into them.

As for playing games - *make* time. I finally did so by establishing a weekly gaming night and it's worked out pretty good, except we too often have too many players to play a lot of the games we *want* to play. (5 player games... ::sigh:: Who would have thought that I'd have so many five player games, and so many 6 player nights... :D)

I've never gotten to play WizWar or Titan, but I've heard about them for years. Talisman I picked up used and really enjoy, but I don't get to play it very much (more likely to play Munchkin or Order of the Stick these days). In college we played Cosmic Encounter and Illuminati almost exclusively.

Red Dragon Inn is brand new and an amusing take on the fantasy adventure genre. You each play a character from a party of adventurers, but you are between gigs and all hanging out at the Inn. It's a game of gambling and drinking where you try and be the last person standing.

Kill Doctor Lucky is an old Cheapass game that has been re-released in full color. Everyone is running around the old mansion trying to bump off Doctor Lucky, but you can't be seen doing it. It is sort of a reverse Clue - we know who will die, but not where, with what, or by whose hand.

Eventually I'll get back to having regular game days, but right now there are several projects at home that need to be finished first.
