Life in the Kingdom of Loathing is going well. Wolffauer (#1137554) is on his fourth ascension - this time as an oxycore disco bandit (though I'm very tempted to drop the oxy part until I get Pulverize as an HC perm skill. The real goal for this run is to finally get his Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot familiar. Last run I forgot that after I finished I could get to the stuff in my display case so I didn't save the quest related bits that I needed.

My other character, Marfu (#1246746) is on his fifth ascension (he's moving faster 'cause he was created while Wolffauer was working on getting to level 30). Doing mostly pastamancer and sauceror so he can get all the cooking skills. While Wolffauer is in HC, he's got all the Mr. Store goodies. I'm seeing how fast I can run him through this time (he's now level 5 after 1 day, with no wads).

My other other character, Mr_Punch (#1261215), is also on his fourth ascension. He's currently going for Pulverize (already has the weapon and armor making skills).

The Chestnut Tree Cafe is pretty quiet these days - lots of folks dealing with the end of school terms or just life in general. Right now I've been having fun with clan warfare. Our clan is currently 10th in warfare wins, and has a good shot at getting 9th some time this year (yeah, it's slow progress). I'm doing what I can to keep our wins up, while still having fun with some other aspects.

Mr_Punch is in "KOL Addicts". It's a very different clan, mostly because it is huge (over 6500 members, compared to CTC's 100 members). They usually have 25-30 people in chat at any given time, so at least it is interesting that way.

I've finished three Greasemonkey scripts to make my life easier while playing. I'm getting some additional testing on them now and then I may make them public. (Still need to make a simple web page for them though).

Just one question

So I recently started in KOL (because of your LJ posts in fact).My first character is still working on his first ascension. What I don't yet understand is, what exactly is the appeal of an HC ascension? Sure you can get some nice rewards, especally from OxyCore runs, but other than that I just can't figure out why you'd go to all the trouble.

As I said I'm new and I have no affiliations, which seems to emulate the majority of the restrictions that come with HC, and its a royal pain.

I think the main thing is the rewards and the challenge of it. Once you've ascended a few times, it isn't that hard to go through a softcore run in a couple of days. Doing a hardcore run is still a challenge. The only things you get to help you out are the skills you've collected and the rewards from the previous run.

In my case, I just want the rewards so that I can use them in my softcore runs :)

Oh yeah - what is your character's name?

If you are looking for a clan at some point, I recommend The Chestnut Tree Cafe - good rumpus room stuff (lots of extra adventures per day) and a nice and active clan stash.
