Some books I just fly though, while others I seem to crawl through. This one was a crawl. It's an exploration of the history of culture, language, art and science with an emphasis on the role of story telling. In addition to the Discworld short story told in the alternating chapters, they use a lot of Discworld examples. Interesting stuff, but I wish they included a list of sources or references (not the Discworld ones, the others) - it'd be nice to look up some of their info and get more details.
On to something that's purely fictional :)
