Events (and one convention)

Just sent out our registrations for a bunch of events and one convention.

Edit (10/20): Added the rest of the weekends in.

What we've got coming up:
- Funeral
- Halloween party (parties?)
- Bearbaiting, Cockfighting and Shakespeare - in Boston, so we'll probably make a weekend out of it.
- Metalsmiths Symposium  (violet_amy) / 100 Minutes War (me) - different interests pulling us in different directions for the weekend.
- Ursinus Revel (and maybe a game day)
- Darkover Con - with Tamora Pierce, Katherine Kurtz, Diana Paxson and a Clam Chowder concert.  (Anyone else going / want to go?).
- Tree trimming at my mom's.
- Bhakail Yule - skipping Philcon (again).
- EK Brewers Collegium - still working out the details on this one.
- Christmas (no plans yet)
- New Years (no plans yet)
Also in the works for January are 12th Night and Birka.

In talking to the Philcon chair, we did find out that they're considering moving it back to its old November date -- so Yule and Philcon may be able to not-conflict again some year soon!

Speaking as former chair and best friend of current one, this is true. We don't know how it will work out yet... depends on hotel contracts currently in negotiation. Stay tuned!

That would rock the Philly-area SCA's world! The only weekend we could get a site for was Philcon weekend, but we did at least get a site within easy walking distance for those who want to do both. :)

Yow! Is your schedule normally this full? Or is this mostly because you are retaining?

Mostly because I'm retaining. I would not otherwise go to Hundred Minutes War or K&Q Rapier, and would probably skip Bergental Yule as well.

Normally I have one local event a month (Bearbaiting, Snowed In) and usually one RP or regional event (Crown, Birka).

I wanted to go to this, but then my mother scheduled her holiday party on the same day (this after moving it away from Darkover because otherwise I couldn't make it). I'm hoping a good number of folks from the shire attend - it's just the sort of event they like.

Let's see... I'm going to try to send Goimir to Metalsmiths and Brewers. I've wanted to go to Darkover for years, but it doesn't look likely anytime soon. We may hit Poliudie in Eisental the 30th, and we usually go up to Delftwood Yule if the weather's nice. Probably nothing until late February otherwise. ;-)

These days it takes a guest I'm really interested in (or a Clam Chowder concert) for me to show up to any convention. Still, before Philcon moved downtown I would at least day trip each year.

Even so, I've not been getting much out of cons these days, so it's hard to justify the time and money. Fairly depressing when I think about it - I used to attend several cons a year, and while I had fun I don't think I ever got really caught up in fandom. I always seemed to be on the edges. Ah well. There at least you have my reasons for skipping again.

Last weekend of Ren Faire this coming weekend. OVFF the following weekend. (Come to OVFF (http://www.ovff.org), it's a fabulous con!) Sometime in November is Mid-Ohio Comics Con, at which I'll be helping Rowena sell prints again.

Definitely can't make it this year, but I've been tempted by filk cons in the past. Since I neither sing nor play an instrument I was never sure if they would be worth it. How much is there to do for folks who are just listeners?

Plenty of concerts and suchlike, especially at OVFF, and there's LOTS of open filk to listen to, neat folks to meet and talk to.... It's a good time.

Why can't you make it this year?

Lack of travel planning (and lack of vacation time for violet_amy), plus I've already told folks I'd be at their halloween parties. (Looking forward to the parties, but not the annual trying to come up with a costume that's not garb...)

No idea what, if anything, we're doing in December...I may sleep the whole month. I may proof the novel, if I have one and if I can stand to look at it.

Definitely 12th night, definitely Birka. Talk to us about those...depending on scheduling and stuff, there may be space in France for the two of you.

Well, msmemory and siobhan1214 have good reasons to be at a lot of RP events. The rest of us just like to keep busy :)

We hit events in Atlantia from time to time, but it usually to catch up with our friends from Pennsic.

Philcon is a typical regional SF/F convention. It's got guests, panels, dealers, artists, games, larp, movies, anime, filk, etc. Something for everyone without too much focus on one thing. They don't have many details on-line yet, but check out:
