What's up...

The good news: My sister's school did not go on strike. They just signed a five year contract.
The bad news: My friend Mike's father passed away and we're going to attend the service next Saturday, so no game tournament this year. Until recently we've not gotten to see Mike and his family very often, but they been joining us for brunch recently when they can. His father has been sick for a while now, so it wasn't a surprise, but that doesn't lessen the loss.
The mixed news: Half my job is finally picking up again - I've got billable hours! The other half is slowing down - to the point where they will probably be letting go the new software guy (who they just hired a few months ago).
Monday we dropped off my car at the body shop and then went to fencing practice. We were without one of our regulars, because
beckishadow wasn't feeling well, but we had three others show up. Two were student, Matt and Greg, from the local college. Matt had attended last week as well, so it was good to see him return. Our marshal is working on bringing him up to speed. With luck we'll be able to do some drills with him next week. Greg has been learning saber fencing for several years in Philly, so we threw some armor on him, told him most of the differences between what he's learned and what we do, and then had at. He's very fast, and seemed to have a good time with it - hopefully his schedule will let him attend practice from time to time. Our final new person isn't really new. His name was Sean the Lost and he was visiting the area for work. Lucky for us he brought all his fencing gear along to play :) He's from Wheeling, WV and normally plays with Kings Crossing. Good fencer - we all had fun fencing with him.
I spent Tuesday night working on my mead making class hand out. I got about half way done writing it, but the only parts left were equipment and process - both fairly straight forward. I wish I had started earlier so that I'd have more time clean it up. As things stand, I suspect I'll be taking as many notes as the students.
Wednesday we went down to the brewers guild meeting. The meeting was well attended and ran pretty smoothly. I've noticed some household and canton politics working their way into the guild, so I worry a little. Got to taste a cordial and mead from Prudence - both very nice. Had folks try my two wine kit creations as well as a hard cider. The wines went over well, but the cider is too sour/tart for most folks. It was recommended that I try adding a malolactic culture to take some of the edge off and then re-bottle.
Thursday night we picked up the car (yay!). It's all shiny and clean (at least the outside is). I was told not to take it to a car wash for at least 30 days and to not have it waxed for at least 90 days (not that either were very likely to happen). I was supposed to work on EK History stuff, but instead we ate dinner and watched the latest episode of Lost. Afterwards I finished up the handout for my class. I'm going to go over it tonight again to make any final adjustments and then print out copies for the event.
Tonight: finish up class materials and work on sorting exchequer files. Tomorrow: Schola. Sunday: a birthday party for some friends and Monday it all starts over again. I hope to start getting back to the gym, since I don't think I've been there in the last two weeks.

Date: 2004-10-15 11:00 am (UTC)The latest is paranoia about letting the East Kingdom register a badge for the guild (since they are a royally chartered guild) and possibly loosing control over the badge.
