So spoke my new dentist.

Went in yesterday to get my filling replaced, talked about why I've had trouble with that tooth and we both agreed that it was the wisdom tooth behind it that was mostly to blame.  (The wisdom tooth was situated in such a way that food was always getting caught between it and the other tooth).  So he says "Let's take it out".  After asking me a few times if I want it out or not (and me not real sure about this), he says "It's coming out".  And it did.

Normally this might have bothered me, but I've been of the opinion that it should be removed for years, I just never got up the nerve to get it done - it wasn't like it was impacted or something.  I still have my other three wisdom teeth, and he doesn't see any reason to mess with them.

I've got a follow up appointment the day before I leave for Pennsic, but given that today it doesn't even hurt (and no drugs!) I suspect things will be fine.

I so want to attend Pennsic this year! But, alas, I can't. Next year though... I should be there.
You are one lucky guy! Say hi to my shire for me while you are there!

I don't think I could be quite as blase as you appear to be after hearing a dentist say something like that.... *shudder*

Sounds very much like the situation I've had with one of my wisdom teeth. It's at an angle and was against the tooth next to it in the same way so food was getting caught, acids were building up, and the tooth it was up against was getting a deep cavity.

In fact, the dentist was kind of surprised I wasn't waking up with nasty pain in the tooth, for it seemed very, very close to the softer insides. He wasn't even sure he could do a filling with it, but it worked out. Going to give it about half a year to see how things hold up and after that we'll see if either of those teeth need to go.

I did have one on the other side pulled a couple weeks ago, and it was definitely a weird experience. Pretty painless, fortunately.
