9. Fragile Things - Neil Gaiman

Great collection of mostly previously published short stories and poems. A few of them I'd read elsewhere, one or two I've heard him read at conventions and the rest were new to me - including the American Gods novella.

I quite enjoyed Fragile Things, but didn't realize until I was halfway through it that I really should have read American Gods *before* reading the novella -- it was at least a mild spoiler. No tragedy, but a definite oops.

OTOH, I thought A Study in Emerald was freaking brilliant, especially when I realized, at the Very Very Very End of the story, that I'd quite misunderstood what was going on in it. I always love an author who can fool me so thoroughly...
