22. Fool - Christopher Moore

Another fun and fast read from Christopher Moore. This is his take on King Lear (a Shakespeare story with which I'm not really familiar) from the point of view of the Fool. It's a fun bawdy tale (complete with a warning: "Herein you will find gratuitous shagging, murder, spanking, maiming, treason and heretofore unexplored heights of vulgarity and profanity, as well as non-traditional grammar, split infinitives, and the odd wank.")

I ran into one snippet in the book which unsuspended my disbelief for a moment. The book is set in a mythical 13th century England and in no way intended to be historically accurate, or even close to accurate. But still when the Fool mentions playing card decks having two jokers or the Tarot being used for divination I cringed a little.

I was hit by something similar in the A Dirty Job, Blood Sucking Fiends and You Suck. Every time his character of Emperor Norton interacts with the dogs, I think "But by all creditable accounts Norton hated those dogs..." :)
