How things connect
Jun. 3rd, 2004 04:18 pmIt all started with a casual mention in a bulk email from a friend of mine. Something along the lines of "More x then at a Rasputina concert" (I can't recall what x was - lace?, corsets?). The name Rasputina catches my eye, so I throw it into google to see what comes up. From http://www.rasputina.com/ I find a few mp3 files of their songs. They appeal to me, so I hit their list of albums (where I discover I already have one of their songs - on the Buffy soundtrack) and track down a few CDs. All is good.
A few weeks later I'm poking around livejournal to see what it has in the way of Rasputina stuff - I find
inourbloomers. Mostly folks talking about concerts that I can't get to (and would probably be uncomfortable at anyway), but then someone mentions that after their current tour, Melora (of Rasputina) will be teaming up with Hannah Fury. They are very excited about this, so I go check out Hannah's website. I poke around, and find some more mp3 files. More good stuff. Different from Rasputina, but a great voice and a good sound. I go and order her CDs (one album and a few EPs).
Fast forward again - the rest of her stuff is as good as (or better) then what I heard from the mp3s. On her album she has several tracks inspired by a book she read.
And that's why I'm now reading Wicked by Gregory Maguire.
