Well, I had hoped to do this last night, but that didn't happen, so here it is now :) All the links below go to photos.
The story of The Box: I think I've mentioned the back story already, but just to review... About three years ago, The Box was given to Robin and Shannon by a truck driver who was passing through the area. He had gotten their names off of one of the SCA websites. We know that he got the box when he was out west, and we know he tried to a few times to get it to SCA folks out there, but either no one wanted it, or he was just unsuccessful at making a connection. A few weeks ago, they offered to give me the box since it was full of stuff that might be of interest to me as the EK Historian. So when I was helping them unload their moving truck, they handed me The Box.
For the most part it is full of newspaper clippings dating from the late 1960's up to the early 1990's. There is also a small collection of magazines which contain articles about the SCA.
There are a few old SCA publications, such as supplements to TI. These include a few items of interest to the East Kingdom, such as this old newsletter or this event flier.
Finally there are some one-of-a-kind items which I consider true SCA artifacts. For example this letter from Randall Garrett to Harlan Ellison, challenging him to honorable combat at the 1968 Worldcon.
My current favorite artifact is an event waiver, from the first Coronation and Crown Tourney in March of 1967. It's a piece of parchment about 12 inches wide and 25 inches long, with signatures from all the attendees. We've already spotted Diana Paxton and Karen & Poul Anderson - we're still trying to figure out who the rest of them are.
As a side item, just because I was looking for stuff like this at the same time, here is a reference to the first Pennsic that I found in the EK Collection.

Wowwwww. That's not just an artifact, that's practically a holy relic. I heard about that particular bout in my earliest days in the Society. The 1968 Worldcon was, I gather, one of the most important events in Society history -- it was when fandom en masse really discovered the SCA, and it began to spread rapidly. And that bout was allegedly one of the things that got their attention.
Okay, it's not quite like finding Excalibur sitting in your living room. But it's one of the chairs from the Round Table. Who the heck was that trucker?
