I've been trying out the PaperBackSwap .com recently. Not a bad little set up. The website could use some help, but the idea and operation is pretty good.

If you are not familiar with it, it is a website that allows you to get free books in exchange for sending out free books (you only pay for postage on books you sent). You need to list and send books to get credits. These credits in turn are used to request books. I put up about twenty books I'd been meaning to get rid of and requested a few I had on my wish lists (you get 3 free credits when you list your first 9 books). Those went fairly well, so I kept going. So far I've mailed out 8 books, and received 7 with two more on their way to me.

A few of the books I've added to my list were from the "collection" but ones which were very (very) low on the to be read list. I'll probably go through the shelves from time to time and see what else I can do away with, since I'm getting more desirable books in return.

They say they plan to start charging an annual fee some time in the future, but for now it's free.

This is definitely a spiffy site. I've posted eleven books, mostly books related to teaching that I *never want to see again.* One was on someone's wishlist, and another has a pending request. Yay!

Once I get the ones I want and run out of credits, I may actually break down and clear some of the clutter of books I've read but probably won't read again. Probably after we get another bookshelf so I know what kind of space we actually have. Any books I get may also get swapped back out once I read them, unless they're ones I absolutely adore.

That was me, posting as Matt. Oopsie. That's what I get for swiping his laptop.

Speaking of, did it give you credit for having referred me? I didn't know your nickname when I signed on, so I'm not sure if it did or not.
