This year [livejournal.com profile] violet_amy and I are camping with Eldenwood (friends of ours who were also in the Sin Pit at one time). We just got word on our block assignment, and thankfully they haven't gotten bumped from their usual spot in E10. I'm guessing that we will be in the middle of the block with the Great Dark Horde on one side and House Drachenstein on the other (is it Drachenstein that has the "Island of Misfit Peers" sign?). E10 is probably closer to the Games Tent then any other block on site, so I'm pretty happy with it.

My Pennsic schedule is filling up pretty quickly again - not really a surprise this year. It starts on the 12th, when I teach a 10 AM class, then have 11 AM and 2 PM order meetings. I've got three more classes through the week; there is an SCA History thing on Thursday (9 am - 3) then EK Curia at 4; and I need to get in at least two shifts at the archery range. Any time left over will probably be split between the Games Tent and helping Galen with his merchanting (will work for games!).

I've not looked at the rest of the class list to see if there is anything I want to take. The last few years I've missed more interesting classes then I've attended. I'm sure there are a bunch of other things I should at least thing about attending, but I've not gotten that far yet.

I was thinking about some stuff that [livejournal.com profile] jljonsn said recently, and decided I'd like to upgrade my game boxes to something a little more period looking (if not actually documentable). Currently I have a 14 gallon rubbermaid tote and sturdy cardboard file box (so, plenty of room for improvement). I'd love to get two reasonably light weight wooden boxes to hold everything (one for my stuff, and one for the shire stuff). Of course then I will probably need a new method to transport them (currently using a small luggage cart). I don't even know where to begin trying to research this stuff nor do I know if what I want is realistic (it all still has to fit in the car with the rest of the gear...)

Things to think about though.

Let's start off by saying I wasn't looking forward to Pennsic this year. It just didn't have the draw for me that it had in previous years. So, I set up enough commitments to get me there and keep me there. I figured I'd probably enjoy myself once I got there, and for the most part I did.

This is long, but not very in depth. It took me this long just to get what's here - but I figure I wanted to post it sooner rather then later. Feel free to ask questions.

We made it home from Pennsic with no problems. Got in around 8:30. 185 emails waiting for me, and no clue how many LJ posts. Will post more later.

Well, Pennsic is over for another year.  I can't say this was a great Pennsic, but it wasn't a bad one either.

How I spent my summer vacation... )

The Pennsic class schedule is on-line.  And, no, I'm not actually teaching 21 classes.  They just put my name on the generic Period Games class, since I was the contact.

Reading [livejournal.com profile] annathepiper's Norwestcon reports have gotten me thinking about Worldcon again.  It's up in Boston this year.  After several failed attempts they finally got it back.  The first Worldcon I attended was Noreascon 3 in 1989 in Boston.  When I was more actively attending cons, I supported each of the Boston bids - of course it's the one that I didn't support (because I'd stopped attending) that actually gets the bid :/ (supporting a bid and voting can get you a reduced membership - current membership price for Noreascon 4 is $180)

After Boston, I didn't attend for another three years - something about having to go to college and work and stuff.  A bunch of my college friends and I went down to the 50th Worldcon in Orlando (1992).  After that we attended everyone for a few years, ending finally with the one in Glasgow Scotland (1995).  That one was fun for a few reasons.  We had all graduated at that point and were moving out of Philadelphia.  We packed our stuff, put everything in storage, and went to the con.  When we got back, we pull everything out of storage and moved into our new place in Norristown.  After the convention, we spent a few days in London, then took the Chunnel over to Paris and spent a few days there.  I still hope to go back to England at some point, but I could do without a return visit to France.

After that I only made it to three more Worldcons, and those mostly because I had already bought the memberships for them or they were extremely local.  1997 San Antonio, 1998 Baltimore and 2001 Philadelphia.

I started attending Pennsic in 1996 and have only missed one since then - that's where my summers have gone.  Still Boston's not too far away, maybe I could hit Worldcon every three years.  Of course it's going back to Glasgow next year...
