The Good:  In spite of having to get up at 4:30 AM (on a Saturday no less!), and in part because of getting up so early, we made it to the airport and onto the plane well before the snow storm which hit the east coast.  We arrived safely, and even a little early, in Las Vegas where we immediately started wishing we packed more short sleeve shirts and fewer winter jackets.

The Bad: Upon arriving at our hotel room, I  realized that someone had busted the lock on my suit case (cheap lock).  When I opened it, I discovered that they had gotten in and stolen the necklace I was going to give Amy for our anniversary.  It really should have been in our carry on, but there wasn't enough room and I was hoping to surprise her with it.  We've already put a claim in with the airlines, and I'll be following that up with a claim to the travel insurance (which I originally bought to protect us from being delayed or canceled by snow).  So we should be covered for the loss, but it still sucks and put an immediate damper on the trip.

The Beautiful: Shortly after getting off the phone with the airline, and before we headed out for the evening, we got a knock at the door.  It was room service with a gift basket from our friend Sabatina and her husband welcoming us to Vegas and wishing us a happy anniversary.  The timing was perfect to brighten our mood :)  We even took photos.

Apart from the above, our first day was pretty mellow.  We arrived well before check in time (about 3 PM), so we drove up and down the Strip taking in the sites.  We headed south of the strip to grab a bite to eat at the Bootlegger Bistro and stopped in at the outlet mall for a little light shopping (looking for those short sleeve shirts...).  After that we checked into the hotel and got settled in.  We went out in the evening to the Showcase mall, visited the M&M World, and the Coca Cola World.  At the Coke place they had a variety of coke products not sold in the US, so I was able to get a Ginger Beer that they sell in South Africa - very nice!  After grabbing drinks we went and saw Elektra at a nearby movie theater (I know, we're in Vegas! and go see a movie?!).  Afterwards we headed back to the hotel.  Amy grabbed a quick bite to eat (I was still full from lunch) and we visited the arcade to try and find pinball machines - which we did.  Amy played one game on the Simpson machine and then we retired for the night.  At this point, I'd been up for 21 hours and was crashing quickly.

During the day we got hit up by several folks who want us to sit in on a presentation (new casino, new time share, new resort...) in exchange for free tickets or meals.  We put them all off for now (but took their coupon books).  Who knows, if we find one that can get us into a show we really want to see, we might sit through the presentation.

We need to remember to bring our camera everywhere.  We missed a few places where we would have liked to have taken a picture or two.

After seeing yet another ad for Folies Bergere:
Amy: "I'm going to be seeing women's asses everywhere this week."
Me: "Woot!"
