I'm more familiar with that feeling than you might understand: I was in much the same position when I got my Laurel. At that point, I had done huge service, and was a great teacher, but my skill was mediocre and my research slight. I had much the same conversation with Baron Patri that we're having now.
Only thing I can say for it is, consider it motivation. That same feeling was what led me to start taking the research side more seriously. (And was part of what drove me into games, where there is still more scope for original research than there is in the relatively established field of dance...)
