Catching up
Heh - I always seem to be trying to catch up. Must be my jet-setter lifestyle...
It's been a good month for music and theater stuff. We went to see Wicked with
nuntiatura and family at the end of July. I enjoyed the show in spite of the big differences between it and the book (the book is seems much darker). What really made it was the cast we had - they did a great job. Now I can finally listen to the soundtrack album (which we've had since it was released) :)
We saw Weird Al in concert at the Keswick theater last week. It was the first time I've seen him live (*shock*). He focused mostly on his newer work (I think he hit all but 2 songs on the new album), but also hit a good deal of oldies. He had a lot of video pieces which got shown between songs (giving him time for his numerous costume changes). This included musical videos for Trapped In The Drive Thru and Weasel Stomping Day. Highlights include the dancing storm troopers on stage during The Saga Begins, and a strange noise/dance sequence during Yoda. The band was impressively together (especially through the stranger bits). His encore song was an extended version of Albuquerque. Someone on
weird_al has posted pictures from the show.
Yesterday we took Derek out for his birthday (oh, and
noble_oni was with us too ;) ). Saw an early evening showing of Stardust. Loved it, but that was no surprise. I need to read the novel now to see how different it is (I've only read the graphic novel prior to this).
I still need to get tickets to Assassins and Wittenberg at the Arden (both go on sale tomorrow), and Jonathan Coulton (10/19) at Sellersville. Need to think about Thomas Dolby (9/20) and Christine Lavin (9/22), both at Sellersville.
I'm spending some of my free (ha!) time working on a consulting project. Eighteen channel of ultrasound right into the brain :)
Tomorrow is Philly Area Gamers (yay!). Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I will be able to go to archery on Thursday - haven't made it since before Pennsic (bad archer).
I've got until the 25th to put together the first part of the EK 40th project (namely a letter to go into Pikestaff). After that I need to talk to their Highnesses and see about addressing the audience at coronation (eek!!)
Need to borrow the tent again from Green Lane *and* get cracking on making game boards. Oh and order comics soon too.
Ok, done catching up here - time to go catch up elsewhere.
