Vigil and elevation

First off, photos from our camera and Naomi's can be found on Flickr. Tomas and Marion's pictures start here. If anyone else has photos, please let me know!

I'll try and get good photos of the scroll and regalia up soon.

Thank yous need to go out to so many people:
Joe and Kandy for putting together a great vigil spread.
Finn, Vicky, Bertana and every one else for setting up the vigil area.
The many friends old and new who stopped by the vigil to advise, visit and congratulate.
Casey for taking the job of heralding me into court at the last minute and doing a kick-ass job of it.
Gabriel for speaking as a member of the Order of the Chivalry. (PS. I hope to make Wrightstown this year!)
Justin for his kind words as a member of the Order of the Laurel - and Steffan for bringing those words to us.
Garlanda for speaking for the Order of the Rose - and Istvan for reading her words (yeah, that was a great picture when a Rose was called for and he stood up :)
Margarete for your words, the medallion and so many things - here is to looking forward
Alissa for making my Pelican Cloak (so very warm!)
Naomi for making my Cap of Maintenance.
Marti and Arpad for creating my scroll - and Kat for reading it :)

Most importantly to Amy - for making my garb, organizing everything, and putting up with me during the last two weeks (not to mentions the years leading up to them). All my love to you.

[livejournal.com profile] violet_amy, [livejournal.com profile] complexated and I left Friday after work and went up to the hotel. I believe the only big thing we forgot was my CPAP machine (added it to my eternal packing list now). Saturday morning we had breakfast with [livejournal.com profile] shadowpony and [livejournal.com profile] starseeker1221, before getting into garb and driving over to the site.

We met [livejournal.com profile] joef_johnm, [livejournal.com profile] kandy_elizabet and [livejournal.com profile] bertana at the site, followed quickly by [livejournal.com profile] dame_margarete, [livejournal.com profile] finnfinnegan and AJ.

Set up went well - we only punched one hole in the ceiling before following the other vigil's lead and removing the drop ceiling panels before putting up the pop-up. I kept getting into trouble by trying to help set up, but what was I supposed to be doing? I avoided shopping for games, took a table for a walk, and otherwise tried to keep myself busy and out of the way. Around 12:30 or so, there was a mini court to send a few folks off to vigil, and let people know where our vigils were. From that point on, I pretty much stayed in the tent. I had a plate of food and a cooler with water and diet coke, so I was in good shape.

There was a pretty constant stream of people, about evenly split between those I knew and those I did not. Discussions ranged from history stuff, jokes, advice and congratulations. It was very touching and humbling to hear the thoughts and words of so many friends. It will probably take some time for me to really process most of it. I felt like I was at a loss for words during most of it - unable to come up with much more then "Thank you".

As things wound down and court got started I spent some time just trying to relax. At this point I started to feel nervous :) We hung out in the hall for a while before heading into the auditorium where court was being held and waited for my name to be called. After that, everything seemed to go very quickly.

Casey heralded me into court, Vicky and Alissa carried my banner and Amy and I walked in together. I answered their Majesties question with "I will", and listened to the kind words of many people. I was glad for the baggy pants I wore, as my legs twitched and shook at times (for once it wasn't my knees :) ). I received the cloak, cap and medallion. Heard the words of the scroll and swore a shaky oath of fealty. Then stepped back to take my place in the order as the next person was called up.

After court and clean up, several of us (the vigil crew + our friends Jessica and Cathy) went of to dinner and enjoyed a great time eating, drinking and laughing.

Getting a peerage was not something I strived for or expected any time - I knew it was possible, but I never wanted to worry about it. I didn't have many requests for the vigil or ceremony, I was more then happy to let my friends plan and run whatever they wished. Looking back, it was everything I could have hoped for.

Thank you all.

Never was an award so well deserved. I'm so sorry I wasn't able to attend.

I'm really glad I could be there! It was so great to see you elevated, and to hear everyone's words on your behalf.

Sorry I couldn't herald you in-- but when Amy mentioned it, I think I experienced the worst stage fright I've ever had. I'm so out of practice! I'm so glad Casey was there, he did an awesome job and was waaaay more calm, cool and collected about it than I was.

Congrats!

Glad I could be there, and I am sorry I oculd not stop by to see you...I was kinda involved with one of those other vigils!

Please feel free to ask should you feel the need for advice and counsel. Oh...never mind. You'll be too busy working!
;-D

From what I saw everything outside the tent went very smoothly all day, and we had a very nice low key way of letting people know when they could head into the tent, no formal lines, so people could enjoy the food and look at the history display.
I hope that you enjoyed the day, inside the tent and out.

Congrats, bro! So sad I couldn't make it, since it was our baronial 12th night, as well. Soon, no more these obligations.

Our divestiture will be April 4th at Grand Tourney, if there's any chance of making that.
