Basically several people in the shire (including me) felt that G&G had run it's course. Very few people were playing in the games tournament. Attendance was still stable but most folks were just treating it as a social event (good for hanging out, eating, drinking, etc.) So we decided to try something different this year. Still have a "spring" event, just change some of the activities to try and bring in some new folks and breath some new life into the event. Part of the idea was to give more of a back drop to a social event.
We opted to go with a bigger site to give us more room to play with - only problem was that it wasn't available on our first choice date (Mar 11th). Our second choice (Mar 4th) was open, but then we found out K&Q Rapier was going to be on that date in Bhakail. Other dates had us running into K&Q Bardic (not as much fun dancing with out the Branslers), Iron Bog Investiture and Mudthaw.
About that time Brynn came forward with the Fields of Gold event. So, at that point we decided to put off on the "spring" event and do Fields of Gold.
Then Fields of Gold got canceled...
So for now folks are focusing on Alles Faire, plus we have a few options for something in the fall (scola and/or "spring" event).
