Cats

Time for a general cat update.

It's been over a year since Mughi passed away leaving us a three cat household. Tyree went with Amy to keep her company and reduce the stress on Grimalkin (who never got the hang of him) and Gunther (who did ok, but not great).

A couple weeks ago Grimalkin had a health scare when she stopped eating for a while and developed fatty liver syndrome. Fortunately a week or so of force feeding and meds were able to reverse the problem and get some weight back on her. Unfortunately soon after that she decide she was going to become diabetic. Tonight she is at the vet while they figure out what dosages of insulin will work for her. Tomorrow I pick her up and get my training. If we get really lucky, she'll reverse this as well at some point (cat's are weird that way - they can recover and reverse various organ problems, essentially going into a sort of remission.)

Sunday we received a visitor who had had a really rough week. One of the feral kittens at my sister's house had a run in with a neighborhood dog, and gotten his leg pretty messed up. If they could find a place for him to recuperate (at least), the vet and a cat rescue society would do the work needed to keep him going. Kim's place is full up on animals, and I'm a softy when it comes to cats, so I said sure he can stay with me. If the girls get along with him ok then he can stay for good. Little guy lost a leg (and got neutered), but otherwise was given a clean bill of health.

He is currently set up in the office with the door shut. Any time I go in he is hiding in one cave or another - but the litter box has been used, the food is all gone, and stuff on the shelves or desk has been moved about.

He doesn't have a name yet. I'm leaning toward something related to Tyr, but I may check out Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable (where we first spotted Grimalkin's name.)

Here he is in the closet:

Hmm... kinda hard to see.

Maybe if I move the poker chips...

Here is a picture of him at my sister's house - pre-accident:

He has a litter mate that is still out there. Four cat's isn't too much for one person is it? He could use the company, right?
