That's the incident when Koppel, returning from an SCA event/practice on the NYC subway with some other folk, was mugged. He was wearing most of his armor and had his sword. He held 'em off while the ladies dashed up the stairs. Legend has it that's what he was knighted for, but he was already a knight. Koppel was 2nd Principal Herald of the East, before the office was named "Brigantia" by Alfgar, his successor. The story is true, by the way: I've met Koppel a couple of times, and asked him, and he's confirmed it. He lives in Trimaris, in Starhaven (?) or Vaca del Mar I believe (Space Coast or Volusia County).
